TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

As a professional musician and educator, my teaching philosophy revolves around three foundational principles: musical proficiency, inclusivity, and global awareness. I operate with the intention that all students deserve a quality music education, regardless of their background or demographics. By the end of their schooling experience, students should be proficient in reading, creating, performing, recognizing, analyzing, and studying various forms of music. The goal is to inspire lifelong music learning in students and ensure that they have the skills and resources to connect with others through the arts. In the process, students will gain understanding and develop empathy that transcends the differences among those around them. Not only should music be a means for expression, but it should also include diverse cultural perspectives, motivate kindness, and cultivate critical thinking. I chose to become an educator because I believe in a society that prioritizes students and the unity of humanity.

“...Participation is at the heart of the living traditions… and therefore we have a responsibility to ensure that everyone who wishes to do so has the tools and access they need to join in.”
